What is the difference between gate valve and globe valve?

A gate valve is a type of valve that operates by raising or lowering a gate (a flat or wedge-shaped metal plate) to open or close the flow path. When the gate is fully lifted, the flow path is unobstructed and the valve allows maximum fluid flow. When the gate is fully lowered, the flow path is completely blocked, and no fluid can pass through the valve. Gate valves are typically used in applications where the valve is either fully open or fully closed, with little need for fine control over the flow rate.

On the other hand, a globe valve operates by using a disc (a round, flat or conical metal plate) that moves up and down in response to changes in the position of a stem. When the disc is raised, it opens the flow path, allowing fluid to flow through the valve. When the disc is lowered, it closes the flow path, blocking the flow of fluid. Globe valves are typically used in applications that require fine control over the flow rate, as the position of the disc can be adjusted to precisely regulate the flow.

Another difference between gate valves and globe valves is their internal design. Gate valves typically have a simple, unobstructed flow path, which can allow for maximum fluid flow with minimal pressure drop. Globe valves, on the other hand, have a more complex flow path, which can result in a higher pressure drop across the valve, but also allows for more precise control over the flow rate.
